Is Your Multivitamin Coming Up Short?

Is this you? You try to eat healthy but you know your diet isn’t perfect. If so, you’re not alone. Most of us (90 percent) don’t eat enough fruits & vegetables each week. In order to get our vital nutrients many of us think just taking a multivitamin will fill those gaps in nutrition. Sadly a single tablet can’t give you the full spectrum of nutrients your body needs.  A multivitamin is like a swiss army knife, it’s better than nothing but it’s never the best tool to get the job done.
Where is your multivitamin falling short? It largely depends on which multivitamin you’re taking but if you're currently taking one of the national brands there’s no way it can stack up against a quality vitamin pack.

The chart below compares the nutrients found in a popular national brand to Planet 3 Vitamin Packs.

Your  multivitamin is likely falling short in the following nutrients: Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Elderberry  Lutein & Zeaxanthin, Vitamin B12, Magnesium, Biotin

Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Your multivitamin likely has ZERO Omega-3 Fatty Acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of polyunsaturated fat. We need these fats to build brain cells and for other important functions. Omega-3s help keep your heart healthy and protected against stroke. They also help improve your heart health if you already have heart disease.  You can get Omega-3 fatty acids from eating fish or Omega-3 fish oil capsules. When taking an Omega-3 capsule, make sure to choose a quality product like the Sustainable & Wild Omega-3 Fish OIl capsule found in the Planet 3 Vitamin Packs. It is enteric coated and is sustainably harvested from ocean sources.

Vitamin D
Your multivitamin probably has somewhere between 400IU & 1,000IU of vitamin D.  It seems many experts suggest getting at least 1500IU a day.  The Vitamin D Council recommends that healthy adults take 2,000 IU of vitamin D daily -- more if they get little or no sun exposure. There's evidence that people with a lot of body fat need more vitamin D than lean people.  Having a vitamin D deficiency can lead to severe health issues including brittle bones. Many people experience no symptoms, while others are overcome with fatigue. Each Planet3 Vitamin Packs contains 2,000 IU (50mcg) of Vitamin D.

Vitamin C
Vitamin C is one of the most popular supplements. However, it’s likely your multivitamin has less than 80 mg of vitamin C.  Planet 3 Vitamin Packs contain 300 mg of Vitamin C and 250 mg of the powerful antioxidant Elderberry.  Both Vitamin C & Elderberry have been touted in their ability to help promote immune function. Some studies suggest they can shorter the duration of the common cold.

Lutein & Zexanthin
Chances are your multivitamin does not contain both of these key supplements supporting eye health. A large body of evidence shows that lutein has several beneficial effects, especially on eye health. In particular, lutein is known to improve or even prevent age-related macular disease which is the leading cause of blindness and vision impairment.*  If you’re lucky enough to be taking a multivitamin that contains both lutein & zeaxanthin, I guarantee you it does not have the amounts found in the Planet 3 Vitamin Packs. Each vitamin pack contains 25mg of lutein & 5mg of zeaxanthin.

Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 deficiency is most commonly found among vegetarians and older adults. Technically, vitamin B12 is categorized as a water-soluble vitamin along with the other B vitamins and vitamin C. Excess water-soluble vitamins are not stored in the body for later use, but excreted daily. Vitamin B12 is found in meat proteins & dairy products which is why it is important that vegetarians and especially vegans be aware and actively make getting Vitamin B12 in their diet through food sources or supplementation a high priority.

Magnesium
According to some studies, 75% of us are not getting enough magnesium.  Every organ in your body requires magnesium. There are over 3700 magnesium binding sites in your body, indicating the importance of this mineral, and our probable underestimation of it. And even if you had a blood test, chances are it would not be a good indicator of your true magnesium status since only 1% is stored in the blood. Some of the biggest benefits of adequate magnesium include protection against heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Sleep and mood are other big hitters connected with adequate magnesium leading the mineral to be called the “relaxation mineral.”  If you are someone that suffers from headaches or migraines, magnesium may bring big relief.
Biotin
Some studies suggest biotin helps with brittle nails. Biotin is nearly always found in popular Hair, Skin & Nail formulations.

All of us should get our nutrients from food sources but it can be difficult to maintain a diet that consistently gives our bodies all the important nutrition it needs. Planet 3 Vitamin Packs can help fill gaps in your nutrition. Try them today and get Free Shipping.

  • Agree. Better to take a good assortment like what you sell than just a multivitamin. I’m on a special diet and I like to make sure getting what i need.

  • Totally makes sense. One multivitamin just doesn’t have enough stuff to make a difference. Taking everything in your vitamin pack makes a huge difference. Thanks!

  • Okay, so let me start off by saying that I suck at taking vitamins on a daily basis. I love the fact that these vitamin packs come in a bright box, because it’s kind of hard to miss in the morning when I’m getting ready for work. I also love that I don’t have to reach for 6 different bottles of vitamins, I can just grab a pack of these and I’m good for the day!

  • Good article. Didn’t realize how little my multivitamin had.
